The Supervisor Mine Control is responsible for leading and structuring the mine control team to ensure smooth and efficient control room operations that support overall site productivity and safety. This role focuses on providing leadership, strategic oversight, and operational guidance during the transition from our existing Fleet Management System to Fortescue’s Fortex FMS.

As a key driver of change, the Supervisor plays a central role in shaping and implementing new control room processes, ensuring alignment with evolving technologies and operational standards. By fostering teamwork, providing clear direction, and ensuring seamless communication between control, operational, and support teams, the Supervisor enhances the mine’s operational readiness and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, mentoring, and support to the mine control team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture.
  • Oversee real-time control room operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and productive management of the mining fleet.
  • Lead the mine control team through the transition from the Minestar system to the in-house Fortex system, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Develop and implement new workflows and control processes aligned with the "intervene by exception" operating model and Fortescue’s operational standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the mine control team, operational teams, and support functions to ensure smooth coordination and alignment with site objectives.
  • Track and analyse fleet and operational performance data to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote and enforce safety standards and practices within the control room and across all operations, ensuring compliance with Fortescue’s safety policies.
  • Identify skill gaps and provide training to mine controllers to ensure proficiency in new systems and adherence to updated processes.
  • Oversee the resolution of operational issues, providing guidance and escalating complex challenges to the Superintendent as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in mining related field (desirable).
  • Strong experience in leading and managing teams, fostering collaboration, and driving high performance in an operational setting.
  • Proven ability to mentor and train team members, building their skills and preparing them for evolving operational needs.
  • Hands-on experience managing control room activities, ensuring smooth and efficient day-to-day operations.
  • Experience in scheduling, task delegation, and ensuring team accountability to meet operational objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor team performance, provide constructive feedback, and implement improvements where necessary.
  • Ability to inspire, guide, and manage a team effectively, ensuring alignment with operational goals and company values.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate across teams, resolve issues, and provide clear instructions.
  • Sharp analytical and decision-making skills to address challenges and maintain smooth operations under pressure.
  • Skilled in mentoring and coaching team members to build their capabilities and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills to balance multiple priorities and ensure deadlines are met.
  • In-depth understanding of fleet management systems, including functionality, integration, and operational applications.
