Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth, Western Australia. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

To support our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and technically strong Tax Advisor with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience to join our collaborative Group Tax team. This role will provide exposure to a broad range of Australian and international tax matters, including:
- Corporate income tax and tax effect accounting
- GST, FBT, and state taxes as required
- International tax matters, including withholding taxes, VAT/GST, and sales and use taxes in overseas jurisdictions and global Pillar Two taxes
- Tax compliance, reporting, and advisory assignments across a diverse range of projects and tax systems
Working closely with the wider finance function and business units, you will play a key role in helping Fortescue meet its tax obligations and support decision-making across the business. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review Australian and international corporate income tax returns and related compliance obligations (including GST/VAT, withholding taxes, FBT, and state taxes as required).
- Assist with transactional analysis to support the preparation and lodgement of tax returns across the Fortescue group.
- Ensure accurate and timely tax reporting, including tax effect accounting and other internal reporting deliverables.
- Interpret tax legislation and case law, tax authority guidance and external tax advice and apply it to Fortescue’s transactions, contracts, and business decisions.
- Support the ongoing application of Fortescue’s Tax Risk Management Framework, including maintaining the tax risk register and updating policies, procedures, and governance documentation.
- Assist with ATO and other tax authority engagements, including preparation for and participation in regular meetings.
- Work with external advisors to monitor and manage the tax obligations of Fortescue group entities in Australia and overseas.
- Provide accurate, timely advisory support to the wider business where required, particularly in relation to compliance outcomes.
- Contribute to regular reviews of tax systems, processes, and controls to ensure they remain robust and aligned with Fortescue’s policies and manuals.
- Build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external parties to resolve tax queries and ensure effective communication and proactive management of tax requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in a public practice or commercial tax role.
- An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or Tax.
- A postgraduate or professional qualification (CA, CPA, CTA, or Master of Tax/College of Law) - completed or in progress - will be highly regarded.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
- The capacity to work well under pressure and manage competing deadlines, while demonstrating commitment to the Fortescue Values.
