The Technical Writer contributes to Fortescue’s digital and communications excellence by producing clear, accurate, and standardised documentation that supports engineering, projects, operations, and corporate functions.
This role is responsible for creating, reviewing, and maintaining high-quality written content that aligns with Fortescue’s branding, technical standards, and governance frameworks. It requires exceptional attention to detail, strong written communication skills, and the ability to translate complex information into concise, audience-appropriate documentation.
Working within the Project Services team, the Technical Writer collaborates with subject matter experts across multiple disciplines, ensuring all outputs are consistent, compliant, and easily understood.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and edit documentation in alignment with Fortescue’s communication, branding, and compliance standards
- Translate complex technical information into clear, plain English, ensuring content is accessible to diverse audiences
- Apply approved templates, style guides, and version controls to maintain consistency, accuracy, and document integrity
- Manage digital publishing processes, ensuring documents are accessible, properly formatted, and compliant with governance standards
- Maintain document registers, metadata, and style references to support audit, reporting, and traceability requirements
- Collaborate with authors, reviewers, and subject matter experts, coordinating review and approval cycles to meet deadlines and ensure clarity
- Provide editorial guidance and feedback, enhancing structure, accuracy, and alignment across multi-disciplinary contributors
- Champion quality and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to refine templates, workflows, and authoring practices
- Utilise MS Office and PDF tools to create and edit structured, well-formatted content that adheres to plain language and accessibility standards
- Support digital transformation initiatives, including template development, automation, and documentation efficiency improvements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear, professional documentation using Fortescue or equivalent corporate templates and style guides
- Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF applications like Adobe Acrobat Pro; exposure to SharePoint or other content management systems desirable
- Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with authors and reviewers across varied technical disciplines
- Familiarity with document control, data tagging, and metadata management advantageous
- Demonstrates proficiency in scope definition, quality standards, structured writing, and integration of feedback to deliver accurate and audience appropriate documentation.
