Work Location: Fortescue Centre (Perth based role)

 

  • Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

As a Train Controller working from our Perth office, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Fortescue’s rail network and systems.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Work closely with other business stakeholder and contractors to optimise track availability whilst allowing for maintenance work.
  • Accurately record and report data in a timely manner and accurately develop train graphs at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Liaise with port and mine personnel for train presentation and product requirements and provide updated information on train running.
  • Propose and implement improvement solutions based on anticipated or recurring problems, resolving barriers to enhance operational performance, and highlight these solutions to the Train Control Supervisor.
  • Proactively anticipate and resolve safety, environmental, heritage, and health matters related to train control and the rail network and provide visible safety leadership by modelling positive safety behaviours to all staff.
  • Coach and mentor lesser skilled team members, ensuring that the Train Control team is competent to perform their function.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Previous experience as a Train Controller
  • Sound knowledge of both manual and electronic train control systems
  • Knowledge of Radio procedures and protocols and Safe Working Procedures
  • Proactive and outcomes focussed with the ability to work unsupervised and alone. 
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills
  • Good capability with computers and various related software packages
  • Excellent planning, organising and leadership skills with a high level of communication and critical thinking skills.
