Fortescue’s Chichester hub is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.
Roster: 8D6X - FIFO ex Perth
This role covers the Cloudbreak & Christmas Creek Mine sites in the Chichester Water Management department.
We are seeking a high performing and enthusiastic Operational Hydrogeologist to join our Chichester Water Management team.
Reporting to the Senior Water Management Engineer, the central function of this position is to support the overall water management challenges of Fortescue’s mine sites. In this role you will be involved in assessing, optimizing and managing the water supply, dewatering and excess water disposal of our mine operations situated in a dynamic and sensitive groundwater environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce the weekly plans for bore pump installs and prioritise operational work on daily and weekly time frames
- Track and record bore and equipment faults as well providing technical advice and actions to resolve faults including defect elimination
- Maintain and update operational asset registers, databases and other key technical documentation such as the site system schematics
- Produce monthly plans for water system management to the Operation and Maintenance teams to ensure the dewatering and water supply systems are optimised whenever possible
- Identify improvements with regards to FMG dewatering infrastructure standards and processes
- Create and update site engineering processes
- Produce system curves of pumped systems for pump selection and hydraulic analysis
- Work to continuously optimise and improve the dewatering and water supply system
- Liaise with external stakeholders such as the Planning, Mining, and Project teams
Qualifications and Experience
- Must have minimum 2 years experience in a water system design and/or operations environment
- Exposure to mining is desirable
- Must have a tertiary degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or Civil or Environmental)
- System curve and/or hydraulic modelling experience is essential
- Previous pump station and pipeline design experience is highly desirable
- Intermediate Excel skills is essential
- Experience with AutoCAD is desirable
- Knowledge of industry and Australian standards and their application
- Knowledge of Mine Safety & Inspection and OHS Act/Regs
