Our Opportunity
Work Location: Port Hedland Port Operations- Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.
Roster: 8 days on / 6 days off – Residential in Port Hedland or FIFO ex Perth
Fortescue is seeking a skilled and motivated Emergency Services Officer (ESO) to join our Port Operations team. As part of a dedicated and high-performing Emergency Response team, you’ll play a critical role in protecting our people, assets, and environment through effective emergency response, preparedness, and medical support across the Port site.
About the Role
The Emergency Services Officer provides front-line response to all emergency incidents at Fortescue’s Port Operations and supports the day-to-day management of emergency services and medical operations. You will ensure compliance with all site and corporate emergency, medical, and security management policies and procedures, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to all onsite emergency incidents including fire, rescue, and medical events
- Maintain operational readiness of all emergency equipment, vehicles, and facilities through regular inspections and reporting
- Conduct site fitness-for-work assessments in line with Fortescue’s Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) policy
- Plan, coordinate, and participate in site emergency drills and exercises
- Deliver medical services and ensure medical facilities are maintained to operational standards
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and site personnel
- Contribute to ongoing continuous improvement of emergency and safety management systems
- Maintain a high level of personal fitness and operational capability to meet role requirements
Qualifications and Experience
To be successful, you will have:
- Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue or Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)
- Certificate IV in Health Care (Diploma or Degree in Paramedical Science highly regarded)
- Demonstrated skills in:
- Rope Rescue
- Road Crash Rescue
- Firefighting
- Confined Space Rescue
- Breathing Apparatus (Open Circuit)
- Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Response
- Western Australian HR Driver’s Licence
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety and/or Training and Assessment (desirable)
- Previous experience in emergency response and incident management within mining, industrial, or marine environments
