Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.
Roster: 8 Days On / 6 Days Off / 7 Nights On / 7 Days Off
Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician with a strong background in hydraulics to join our dynamic Port Mechanical team. Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimising the performance of fixed plant assets across our port operations.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and is passionate about driving plant reliability and safety excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all fixed plant equipment
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems and components
- Respond to and resolve mechanical breakdowns efficiently and safely
- Conduct inspections across online plant areas including conveyors, train unloaders, sample stations, and balance machines
- Raise notifications and initiate work requests for identified defects
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and equipment reliability programs
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant Mechanical or Engineering Trade Qualification
- Demonstrated experience in fixed plant maintenance, ideally within a mining or heavy industrial environment
- Strong hydraulics knowledge and troubleshooting ability
- Solid understanding of conveyor systems and large-scale bulk material handling equipment
- Proficient in SAP and Microsoft Project or similar maintenance systems
- Skilled in developing risk assessments, JHAs, SWMS, and other safety documentation
- Strong communication and organisational skills with a keen attention to detail
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- A proactive approach to safety and a commitment to Fortescue’s Zero Harm culture
