Roster: 8 Days On / 6 Days Off / 7 Nights On / 7 Days Off

 

Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time

 

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician with a strong background in hydraulics to join our dynamic Port Mechanical team. Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimising the performance of fixed plant assets across our port operations.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and is passionate about driving plant reliability and safety excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all fixed plant equipment
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems and components
  • Respond to and resolve mechanical breakdowns efficiently and safely
  • Conduct inspections across online plant areas including conveyors, train unloaders, sample stations, and balance machines
  • Raise notifications and initiate work requests for identified defects
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and equipment reliability programs

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant Mechanical or Engineering Trade Qualification 
  • Demonstrated experience in fixed plant maintenance, ideally within a mining or heavy industrial environment
  • Strong hydraulics knowledge and troubleshooting ability
  • Solid understanding of conveyor systems and large-scale bulk material handling equipment
  • Proficient in SAP and Microsoft Project or similar maintenance systems
  • Skilled in developing risk assessments, JHAs, SWMS, and other safety documentation
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • A proactive approach to safety and a commitment to Fortescue’s Zero Harm culture
