Our Opportunity

Work Location: Hedland Operations- Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster: 8 days on / 6 days off – FIFO ex Perth or Residentially based in Port Hedland (relocation assistance offered)

 

We are seeking a proactive and passionate Health and Safety Advisor to join our team and help drive best-in-class safety performance across our mining operations.

In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Safety Management Systems
  • Coach and support leaders and frontline teams to embed safe work practices
  • Influence how safety is understood, communicated, and lived every day on site

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with leaders to support delivery of the HSES strategic plan and performance objectives.
  • Coach and mentor leaders and team members to build confidence and capability in:
    • Safety compliance
    • Assurance activities
    • Risk management
  • Provide guidance and support in the investigation of incidents, including ICAM investigations where applicable.
  • Play an active role in the Fortescue Contractor Management audit process.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting health and safety initiatives and promotional material.
  • Liaise with line management, consultants and government bodies on H&S matters.
  • Support operations with Fortescue’s Incident Management System (BMS).
  • Actively participate in the implementation of the Fortescue Major Hazard Program.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Occupational Health & Safety qualifications (Cert IV and above).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Safety Advisor (operational mining environment preferred).
  • Mining environment experience (essential).
  • Demonstrated high motivation and the ability to deliver outcomes under minimal supervision.
  • Safety Auditing qualification (Lead Auditor) – desirable, not essential.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS and Mining Legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience in contractor management.
  • ICAM training and experience in ICAM investigations (preferred).
  • Experience in safety procedural development.
  • Current Western Australian Driver’s Licence.
