Work Location: Fortescue’s Hedland Operations – on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people
Roster: 4 days on / 3 days off - 4 days on / 3 days - 8 days on / 4 days off – FIFO ex Perth
Bring your leadership and planning expertise to one of Australia’s most exciting rail networks. At Fortescue, we’re looking for a highly motivated Planning Superintendent to drive the development and delivery of short, medium, and long-term rail maintenance schedules.
In this pivotal role, you’ll coordinate track access windows, prioritise works, and ensure the safe and efficient use of resources including crews, plant, and on-track machinery. You’ll work hand-in-hand with Network Operations, Maintenance, and Project teams to align planned activities and keep rail operations running smoothly.
As a leader, you’ll guide and develop our planning teams, oversee shutdown and possession plans, and actively manage risks around resourcing and unplanned events. With safety and reliability front of mind, you’ll help shape processes that improve performance today and build capability for the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of short, medium, and long-term maintenance schedules for track, signals, and civil maintenance teams
- Be the go-to contact for all planning matters with internal and external stakeholders
- Review and approve shutdown occupation plans, ensuring alignment with business outages
- Provide strong leadership and consistency across maintenance districts and regions
- Drive continuous improvement in planning systems, tools, and processes with a focus on safety and compliance
- Anticipate and manage risks around resource availability, asset reliability, and operational demands
Qualifications and Experience
- 6+ years of operational experience in rail, heavy industry, or maintenance planning
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, asset management, project management, or related discipline (preferred but not essential)
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple departments
- Advanced SAP knowledge with an analytical and solutions-focused mindset
- Proven experience in shutdown planning and major rail occupations (highly desirable)
- Skilled in reporting, asset performance analysis, and KPI tracking
