Our Opportunity
Work Location: Port Hedland – Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.
Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth
Please note: This is a 7-month secondment or fixed-term opportunity until July 2026.
The Technology Site Specialist is responsible for supporting, maintaining and troubleshooting site-based technology systems to ensure reliable and secure operations. The role delivers hands-on support for corporate and OT network infrastructure, assists with new office installations, provides comprehensive desktop support, and maintains accurate support documentation.
Working under supervision, the Technology Site Specialist contributes to continuous improvement by adhering to safety standards, keeping accurate records, and providing responsive technical assistance to operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide input into handover logs at the end of each shift and as required.
- Ensure all tasks are recorded in ServiceNow, tickets are updated, and stock levels are maintained.
- Capture meaningful historical data in SAP and comply with all work management processes, including notifications and work orders. Complete PM01 and PM02 work orders, ensuring accurate time confirmation, and raise notifications as needed.
- Monitor the performance and integrity of all network and communication systems, actively identifying opportunities for improvement. Analyse equipment failure trends and recommend replacement equipment or components.
- Provide technical advice and support to teams across Fortescue on communications equipment. Support onboard maintenance teams with faults relating to onboard communication hardware.
- Respond to and complete incidents and requests logged through ServiceNow.
- Support project work, including new installations, as directed by SAP weekly schedules.
- Provide on-call support for network and communications issues, including fault resolution and status updates.
- Assist with maintaining printers on site and act as the point of contact for the relevant service provider.
- Ensure compliance with all BMS obligations, including managing hazards and actions prior to escalation.
- Initiate safety conversations to promote a strong safety culture.
- Follow all documented work instructions and procedures.
- Correctly use and maintain PPE, tools and equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, or relevant experience (highly regarded).
- Certifications such as ITIL, Microsoft or Customer Service are desirable.
- Australian C Class Manual Driver’s Licence.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an IT Site Support role.
- Cisco network experience.
- ITSM ServiceNow experience.
- Wireless point-to-point experience.
- Installation experience.
- Mine site and FIFO experience.
- Audio-visual/meeting room support experience.
- Proficient computer literacy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in fault-finding across systems and networks.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.
- Ability to diagnose and repair hardware components.
- Ability to read and follow schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to clearly communicate ideas in group settings, adapting technical detail for different audiences.
- Strong understanding of technical job components, with the ability to stay current
- on developments and trends within relevant technical fields.
- Commitment to self-improvement, maintaining high work standards for self and others. Review work for quality, set clear expectations and model high-quality output.
- Ability to support others’ development by teaching new tasks and procedures, providing specific and objective feedback, diagnosing problems and sharing solutions to build capability.
