Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Hedland Operations (Port) Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people. This role is located at the Anderson Point offices.

 

Roster: The roster is 4/3 FIFO ex. Perth or 4/3 residential

 

This exciting opportunity involves coordinating a team of mechanical project specialists, while managing the Engineering Mechanical Project Port Folio at our Port Operations facility. We are looking for a candidate with extensive leadership, project management and mechanical industry experience.

 

Reporting to the Engineering Port Projects Superintendent, the Mechanical Project Coordinator is responsible for assigning capital, maintenance and safety projects to the project specialists, while holding them accountable to Fortescue’s project framework throughout planning and execution. This role also contributes to maintaining the Port facilities Ten Year Capital Plan and attends relevant leadership and shutdown meetings, while working closely with our Maintenance and Operations team to ensure all project deliverables are ascertained and met. 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Overseeing a team of project specialists, Graduates, Undergraduates and Vacation Students
  • Assigning projects to team members
  • Ensuring Project Specialists adhere to Fortescue’s Project Framework, work management and shutdown Readiness processes
  • Building, tracking and reforecasting project budgets with cost controllers
  • Speaking to forecast versus actual results
  • Assisting the Projects Superintendent to manage/prioritise Port’s ten year capital port folio
  • Ensuring all capital projects in the port Folio are entered in the system with correct documentation attached
  • Review design concepts presented by the specialist’s before engaging stakeholders
  • Identify improvement projects (both maintenance and safety related)
  • Assisting specialists to tender work packages, tender, engage and manage contractors
  • Working with contracts team for larger tender package submissions and awards
  • Conducting safety and contractor audits
  • Review, challenge and approve SAP notifications
  • Attend weekly engineering planning meetings
  • Manage work order backlog
  • Attend all shutdown interface meetings (planning and execution)
  • Ensure projects align correctly with shut windows and durations, working with Projects and Shut Superintendents to build the 5YR shutdown calendar

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in Mining/Heavy Industrial environment
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in Project Management
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience directly supervising a team
  • Bachelor or Masters in Mechanical Engineering, or Trade qualification
  • Section 26 (preferred)
  • Competency in SAP (preferred)
  • Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Project, Word, Power Point (Essential)
  • Good leadership skills with ability to positively influence people to achieve their targets
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact at all levels
  • Self-driven, willing to be flexible and the ability to demonstrate initiative without Supervision
  • Ability to prioritise and work well under pressure
  • Proven experience of establishing and delivery large portfolio of projects/programs in brownfield and greenfield environments
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and processes
  • Current Driver’s License (C Class)
