Work location: Perth based - Fortescue's Redcliffe office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

 

Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)

 

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Fleet projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet.

Based out our Redcliffe Offices and reporting to the Quality Manager – Heavy Industry, we are presently looking for a Senior Quality Engineer. The role will be instrumental for the organisation’s mission of developing and deploying a World Class manufacturing & supply chain operation, playing a key role in delivering on the roadmap to industrialisation and maturing the organisation and its supply base in terms of its Quality Assurance & Zero Defects goal.

 

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Playing an active, leading role in the development and implementation of the Supplier Management elements of our QMS (Quality Management System)
  • Working with the Centralised Contracts function to develop complementary and concurrent processes that work in conjunction with their existing vendor management & onboarding processes but addressing Supplier Quality
  • Identifying target vendors for prompt assessment and improvement initiatives with priority based upon risk profile
  • Performing Supplier Quality Audits on key vendors both as part of onboarding new vendors and baselining / reauditing of existing vendors
  • Collaboration with identified vendors on their improvement journey, promoting partnerships and close working relationships - enacting action plans as required for vendors identified as needing development – and through collaboration, coaching and mentoring them to improve their processes
  • Cascading appropriate APQP principles & ways of working into vendor operations as they relate to our products – tools such as DFMEA & PFMEA, SC and CC management frameworks, PPAP, Control Plans,
  • The development, tracking & reporting of supplier metrics related to Quality – including the development of a visual dashboard to show vendor status & progress to improvement plans
  • Conducting periodic review of client specific requests and processes related to vendor management so as to align with their requirements, provide feedback on feasibility of compliance to client specs and any exceptions
  • Working across all FWAE project teams, identify best practice approaches to supplier management establishing a common approach across all project and vendor landscapes
  • Adhere to all prevailing Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) Policies, Processes and Systems

 

Qualifications and skills required:

  • An experienced Senior Quality Development professional, with demonstrated track record of successful and impactful Quality Management
  • Proven ability to start from a blank sheet of paper and deploy systematic approach to Quality Management
  • Proven experience in rail, mining equipment, high voltage control systems and businesses with a strong track record of product innovation would be an advantage in this role.
  • Manufacturing-based business process leadership experience, driving a culture of broader business improvement outside of operations through the supply chain
  • Knowledge of assembly processes (welding, adhesive, robotic assembly, automated lines, manual assembly), including complex electromechanical products (e.g. power systems, power-electronics, battery pack etc.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with vendors and attain best in class quality
  • Technical degree preferable (STEM or Operational management)
  • Experienced in implementing APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning ) methodology and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills with knowledge and experience to mentor others in the use of disciplined problem-solving tools (e.g 8D, FMEA, Control Plans, SOP’s)
  • Knowledge of iPLM systems (Integrated Product Lifecycle Management)
  • Experience in the use of problem resolution tools (8D, RED-X, Shainin, 5 Why, 6 Sigma etc.) and techniques is a must along with proven application and knowledge of ISO9001, TS16949 (IATF16949)
  • Knowledge and use of statistical analysis and process capability studies would be beneficial.
