Technical Writer - Mobile Plant
Our Opportunity
Location: Fortescue Centre - 256 St Georges Tce, Perth
Roster: Monday to Friday, 7.6 hours per day
The Technical Writer contributes to Fortescue’s digital and communications excellence by producing clear, accurate, and standardised documentation supporting all company functions. This role is responsible for creating, reviewing, and maintaining high-quality written content that aligns with Fortescue’s branding, technical standards, and governance frameworks. It requires exceptional attention to detail, strong written communication skills, and the ability to translate complex information into concise, audience-appropriate documentation.
Working within the Process, Systems and Assurance team, the Technical Writer collaborates with stakeholders, OEM, and subject matter experts across multiple disciplines, ensuring all outputs are consistent, compliant, and easily understood. These corporate documents are the foundation for use Fortescue wide in maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Document Development & Control - Develop, edit, and manage a wide range of corporate and operational documents, ensuring accuracy, clarity, version control, and compliance with Fortescue standards, branding, and governance requirements.
- Technical Translation - Translate complex, technical, and high-risk information into clear content suitable for diverse audiences while maintaining accuracy and intent.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement - Work closely with authors, verifiers, approvers, and cross-functional teams to coordinate reviews, approvals, feedback, and change adoption within required deadlines.
- Quality Assurance & Risk Reduction - Uphold high standards of grammar, structure, and presentation; conduct reviews and quality checks to ensure documents are audit-ready and meet safety, regulatory, and corporate compliance requirements.
- Content Management & Knowledge Governance - Maintain documents in digital repositories and ServiceNow, ensuring correct tagging, accessibility, lifecycle management, reporting, and alignment with knowledge management practices.
- Continuous Improvement & Systems Support - Identify and implement improvements to templates, workflows, tools, and automation; contribute to metrics, dashboards, and initiatives that enhance documentation efficiency and consistency.
Qualifications and Experience
• Demonstrated ability to produce clear, professional documentation using corporate templates and style guides.
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint and PDF applications like Adobe Acrobat Pro; exposure to SharePoint or other content management systems desirable.
• Strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills, able to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with document control, data tagging, and metadata management advantageous.
• Tertiary qualification in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• A relevant trade qualification is desirable for this role, particularly in areas such as mechanical, electrical, fabrication, or other hands-on technical disciplines.
• Demonstrates proficiency in scope definition, quality standards, structured writing, and integration of feedback to deliver accurate and audience appropriate documentation.
