Our Opportunity
Work Location – Port Hedland; Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.
Roster – 8 days on, 6 days off residential role or FIFO potential in Port Hedland.
With a focus on mechanical reliability and continuous improvement within our fixed plant assets, the Fixed Plant Mechanical Technical Officer will apply advanced fault-finding and diagnostic skills to support the performance and reliability of critical infrastructure. This role plays a key part in driving proactive maintenance strategies, project scoping, and execution of improvement initiatives across the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support during equipment breakdowns, including fault-finding, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis on fixed plant assets such as stackers, reclaimers, conveyors, pumps, chutes, and train unloaders
- Execute preventative and predictive maintenance activities to ensure optimal equipment performance and plant reliability
- Carry out mechanical upgrades, installations, and small-to-medium project works in a safe and efficient manner
- Take ownership of the execution phase of maintenance tasks, ensuring quality workmanship and minimal disruption to operations
- Drive continuous improvement on the floor by identifying recurring issues, supporting defect elimination efforts, and feeding back into reliability processes
- Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) checks on precision maintenance tasks involving critical equipment changeout during shutdowns, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards on equipment such as balance machines, conveyor systems, train unloaders and advanced hydraulic systems
Qualifications and Experience
- Australian recognised Mechanical Fitter trade qualification
- A strong personal commitment to safety and risk management
- Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and system diagnostics
- Previous experience in fixed plant maintenance within the mining or heavy industry sector
- Current C-Class Driver's Licence
- Working knowledge of SAP system surrounding maintenance management
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and ability to work effectively in a team environment
