Our Opportunity

Work Location: Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster: 4D/4N/8R - FIFO ex Perth

We are seeking experienced Locomotive Maintainers to join our Rail Maintenance team. Working on a 4D/4N/8R roster, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing our locomotive fleet, ensuring equipment is safe, reliable and available to support our world-class rail operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a modern fleet of heavy haul locomotives within a collaborative team that values safety, continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and inspections on heavy haul locomotives.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults across locomotive systems.
  • Maintain and replace critical components including diesel engines, braking systems, traction motors, air systems, couplers and bogies.
  • Complete breakdown repairs in both workshop and field environments while minimising operational downtime.
  • Accurately complete maintenance records using computerised maintenance management systems.
  • Work collaboratively with operations and maintenance teams while adhering to rail safety, environmental and operational standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Mechanical Fitter, Heavy Duty Fitter or Diesel Mechanic trade qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mining, rail or heavy industrial maintenance (rail experience highly regarded).
  • High Risk Work Licence with LF and DG endorsements.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes (up to 15T) and forklifts (up to 16T).
  • Current C Class Driver's Licence and the ability to pass a Rail Category 2 Medical and National Police Clearance.
  • Strong fault-finding skills with the ability to work safely in both workshop and field maintenance environments.
