Our Opportunity

 

Work Location:  Solomon mine site, Pilbara, Western Australia.  Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.

 

Roster: 8D6R FIFO ex Perth.

 

The Communications Officer supports the installation, operation, and maintenance of communications equipment and infrastructure across site. Reporting to the Communications Supervisor, this role assists in setting up and relocating communications trailers, performing routine inspections, and conducting preventive and corrective maintenance on all communications infrastructure.

 

This position ensures reliable communication channels are maintained to support safe and efficient mining operations. Working under supervision, the Communications Officer role contributes to the continuous improvement of field communications by adhering to safety standards, maintaining accurate records, and providing responsive technical support to operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

 

· Monitor all network and communication system performance and integrity of the communication infrastructure actively

seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.

· Conduct PM inspections and maintenance of the trailer and tower infrastructure used for communications throughout

the Active mining areas in accordance with the SAP weekly plans.

· Relocation of communication trailers as required to ensure coverage across all mining areas.

· Support project work which may include new installations as required which are defined by SAP weekly schedules

· Assist Communication Specialist with installation works that may be required

· Provide On-Call support for network and communications problem resolution and remediation. Provide feedback on

resolution of faults and status of systems.

· Provide support with system planning for Mine communication infrastructure

· Ensure compliance to all BMS obligations including management of hazards & actions prior to escalation · Initiate safety conversations to promote safety in the workplace · Follow documented work instructions and procedures

Qualifications and Experience

 

· Experience working within the Communications industry

· Mine site and FIFO experience.

· Working at Heights experience and elevated Work Platform certification.

· Operating a 4WD vehicle and towing trailers.

· C Class Driver license (manual)

· Basic network and radio knowledge

· Open cabling license with endorsements is desirable

· Exposure to work management systems (SAP)

· Basic network and radio knowledge
