Title: Drilling Specialist - Gabon

 

Work Location: Gabon

 

Roster: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off FIFO

 

Summary:

The Belinga Iron Ore Project is potentially one of the largest undiscovered iron ore projects globally. We are seeking a Drilling Specialist to support the safe, compliant and productive delivery of exploration drilling activities in Gabon. Reporting to the Manager Exploration, this site-based role will oversee drilling operations, manage contractor operational and safety performance and support successful reverse circulation (RC) and core drilling outcomes aligned with the exploration program.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a key site liaison between the Principal and drilling contractor
  • Oversee RC and core drilling activities to support safe, compliant and productive operations
  • Review daily drilling plods and identify variances against plan
  • Verify contractor machinery, procedures and activities comply with the Principal's Drilling Standard
  • Ensure drilling activities are completed in accordance with health, safety and maintenance procedures
  • Complete machinery compliance checks and monthly inspections
  • Support the accurate review of contractor claims, charges and service delivery records
  • Promote strong field safety leadership and immediately address or escalate hazards and compliance concerns

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in mining and/or exploration operations
  • Proven experience in a similar role with a principal or drilling service provider
  • Demonstrated experience supervising RC and core drilling activities
  • Strong knowledge of RC and core drilling methods, field controls, standards and procedures
  • Experience auditing machinery, completing inspections and managing contractor compliance
  • Certificate III in Drilling Operations (RII31820) is required, with Certificate IV in Drilling Operations (RII40920) preferred
  • Health and safety auditor training, with lead auditor and compliance capability
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual French and English capability is preferred
  • Valid drivers licence and 4WD competency
