Work Location:  Solomon.  Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.

 

Roster:  4D/3R - FIFO ex Perth

As an Electrical Engineer within Energy Operations, you will play a critical role in improving the reliability, integrity, and performance of generation and transmission assets across HV and LV systems.  Based at Solomon Power Station on a 4/3 roster, you will work closely with maintenance, operations, and project teams to provide hands-on technical support, lead fault investigations, optimise maintenance strategies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability, and asset performance across our energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide technical engineering support to maintenance, operations, planning, and project teams during breakdowns, shutdowns, outages, and commissioning activities.
  • Lead troubleshooting, technical triage, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for electrical failures, recurring faults, and operational issues.
  • Ensure electrical integrity and statutory compliance through inspections, testing, and adherence to Fortescue standards, Australian Standards, and safety regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement and defect elimination initiatives across maintenance strategies, equipment performance, and work practices.
  • Develop, review, and optimise preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for electrical assets to deliver safer and more effective maintenance outcomes
  • Support shutdown and outage execution through work scoping, risk management, QA/QC, and engineering OPEX support.
  • Coordinate and review contractor and vendor activities, including technical submissions, service reports, and defect management.
  • Analyse condition monitoring, Asset Health, and downtime data to identify defects, improve reliability, and reduce equipment downtime.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (3+ years)
  • Experience in heavy industry (mining, oil & gas, processing plants)
  • Strong knowledge of HV/LV systems, protection, and control systems
  • Knowledge of Generation (thermal and renewable advantageous)
  • Strong CMMS/SAP experience
  • Proven problem-solving and RCA capability
  • Understanding of reliability engineering principles
