Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth, Western Australia. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday.
Join Fortescue's Capital Accounting team and play a key role in supporting the financial governance of major capital investment programs that underpin the future of our operations.
As a Capital Accountant, you'll work at the intersection of finance and project delivery, ensuring capital investments are accurately accounted for, compliant with accounting standards, and provide meaningful financial insights to support business decisions.
Reporting to the Manager Capital Accounting, you'll work closely with Finance, Project Delivery and operational stakeholders across the business, supporting the full lifecycle of capital projects and lease accounting—from project creation and capitalisation through to financial reporting, audits and statutory disclosures. Key Responsibilities
- Process end of months transactions for capital and lease accounting, including journal entries, accruals, reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review projects during budget and forecast cycles to determine if they are capital in nature.
- Assess capital expenditure requests to determine if they are capital in nature, approve requests and create projects records in SAP.
- Support the closure of projects and capitalisations, depreciation and amortisations postings, asset disposals and sales of assets.
- Assist with lease accounting, maintenance of SAP leasing module and lease payment reconciliations.
- Support the preparation of capital and lease disclosure notes for half year and year end reporting cycles.
- Support the preparation of information to answer audit requests during interim, half year and end of financial year audits.
- Coordinate and prepare external capital reporting to various government agencies.
- Support the update of training materials and standard procedures on capital accounting and lease accounting.
Qualifications and Experience
- CPA or CA qualification or working towards.
- SAP experience preferable.
- Previous experience across either financial accounting, project accounting or management accounting preferable.
- Understanding of Accounting Standards.
- Advance excel use preferable.
- Attention to detail and accuracy, with analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
- The capacity to work well under pressure and manage competing deadlines, while demonstrating commitment to the Fortescue Values.
