Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday-Friday (6 month fixed term contract)
Reporting to the Senior Manager Data and AI, this role is responsible for leading the design, delivery and operation of Fortescue's Data and AI capabilities, products and services. Managing multidisciplinary teams across engineering, data operations, geospatial and platform functions, the role ensures the secure, scalable and effective delivery of data-driven and AI-enabled solutions that support Fortescue's strategic priorities.
This position combines technology leadership, operational excellence and strategic delivery, overseeing technology platforms, delivery partners and critical business initiatives across the Data and AI portfolio. Working closely with senior business and technology stakeholders, the successful candidate will drive capability development, delivery performance and innovation while ensuring technology investments deliver measurable business value.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced technology leader with strong technical foundations, proven people leadership capabilities and a track record of delivering complex technology programs in large-scale enterprise environments. They will possess the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation, from frontline users through to General Manager and Director-level stakeholders, balancing strategic thinking with practical delivery outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop Engineering, Operations, & Platforms teams, fostering capability growth, succession planning and a high-performing culture.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to shape strategic demand, future capabilities and technology roadmaps.
- Oversee organisational design, workforce planning, resource allocation and budget management to support delivery objectives.
- Drive demand management, prioritisation and backlog governance, ensuring alignment with strategic outcomes and enterprise priorities.
- Develop and execute strategic plans, business cases and investment initiatives that deliver measurable business value.
- Lead the delivery of products, services and projects, ensuring effective delivery models, operational excellence and value realisation.
- Drive continuous improvement across delivery practices, team performance, operational maturity and customer outcomes.
- Manage strategic risks, stakeholder engagement and governance while maintaining accountability for assigned technologies, platforms and standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technology teams across engineering, platforms, operations, data or related functions within a complex enterprise environment.
- Proven experience delivering large-scale technology, data and digital transformation initiatives, including the management of products, services and strategic technology portfolios.
- Strong leadership experience in workforce planning, organisational design, capability development, succession planning and building high-performing teams.
- Experience managing demand intake, prioritisation, backlog governance and delivery planning within Agile or hybrid delivery environments.
- Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders, including General Manager and Director-level leaders, to develop strategy, secure investment and deliver business outcomes.
- Strong commercial acumen, including experience managing budgets, forecasting, resource planning, vendor relationships and delivery performance.
- Demonstrated experience delivering data, analytics, AI, cloud or platform-based solutions within a complex technology ecosystem.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Business or a related discipline.
