Work Location: Perth Office - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people. Ad hoc site travel as required.

Fortescue is seeking an experienced geoscience leader to establish and lead its new Global Geosciences function supporting Critical Minerals Exploration, focused on copper opportunities across Argentina, Chile, Peru, Canada, Kazakhstan and Australia.
The role will unify specialist disciplines currently spread across the exploration function, creating a technical centre of excellence. The team will include Artificial Intelligence, Spectral Geosciences, Remote Sensing, Geophysics, Geochemistry and Resource Modelling, working closely with Global Database Management to provide data, tools and technical support.
Reporting to the GM Corporate Development & Critical Minerals Exploration, the position will strengthen technical capability, improve global collaboration, develop standards and support exploration teams to accelerate project advancement and deliver successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead Fortescue’s Global Geosciences function to support Critical Minerals Exploration across Argentina, Chile, Peru, Canada, Kazakhstan, and Australia.
- Build a globally coordinated centre of technical excellence, bringing together specialist geoscience disciplines to strengthen capability, collaboration, and knowledge sharing
- Prioritise technical resources and work programs across the global exploration portfolio to align effort with business priorities and value creation opportunities
- Develop and implement technical standards, workflows, and governance frameworks to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across regions
- Partner with regional exploration teams to support target generation, project evaluation, project advancement, and technical decision-making
- Identify and communicate technical risks, opportunities, and key decision points that influence exploration outcomes
- Champion new technologies, data-driven approaches, AI-enabled workflows, and innovation to improve exploration performance
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team across AI, spectral geosciences, remote sensing, geophysics, geochemistry, and resource modelling
- Support broader exploration capability through mentoring, training, field validation, and knowledge sharing
- Ensure technical outputs are calibrated against field observations and translated into practical, decision-ready recommendations for regional teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Geology or a related discipline, with postgraduate qualifications such as MSc, PhD, or equivalent highly regarded
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in mineral exploration, geology, or related technical disciplines
- Strong experience with porphyry, epithermal, IOCG, or other major mineral systems relevant to critical minerals exploration
- Proven ability to integrate geology, geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing, resource modelling, and data management to support exploration outcomes
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams and building technical capability across an organisation
- Experience supporting projects from early-stage exploration through to resource definition and project evaluation
- Strong technical judgement in assessing prospectivity, geological risk, and project advancement opportunities
- Familiarity with emerging technologies, including AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics for mineral exploration
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and cultural environments, with Spanish language capability highly regarded
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical insights into clear recommendations and business outcomes.
