Roster:  Monday to Friday

 

 

The Manager Operational Transition leads the design, integration, and execution of Operating Philosophies, organisational change strategies, and Transition Plans that enable the decarbonisation of Fortescue’s Pilbara Operations. This role leads the organisational readiness components of our transition to fully electrified mining operations, driving pragmatic change management outcomes and support real adoption of new ways of working across our five operating sites. This role must work closely with a wide range of operational and decarbonisation program stakeholders to ensure safety, cost and production outcomes are maintained throughout the transition. The position provides strategic leadership to Integration and Change Management Leads, aligns project delivery with operational requirements and governance, and supports successful delivery of Fortescue’s zero‑emissions program.

 

 

18-month fixed term or secondment

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the development, governance, and implementation of Operating Philosophies for decarbonised operations, ensuring consistency, practicality, and alignment across sites 
  • Own and drive the change management strategy for operational transformation, including impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, and adoption planning
  • Develop and maintain integrated Transition Plans, ensuring alignment with commissioning, readiness stage gates, and operational constraints
  • Identify readiness gaps and manage transition risks, tracking adoption metrics to ensure safe and successful delivery of future operating models
  • Direct Integration Leads to coordinate cross-functional readiness across engineering, commissioning, maintenance, technology, and operations teams
  • Work closely with Site Decarb Managers to ensure alignment across all support functions, delivering a single, integrated readiness and transition plan for each site and program
  • Coordinate development and endorsement of critical operating procedures, controls, and governance frameworks required for new operating modes
  • Verify safety, systems, and governance elements are tested, validated, and owned prior to operational go-live
  • Act as a trusted advisor to project and operational leaders, influencing decisions and securing buy-in for transition activities and operating discipline

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Iron ore operational experience required (Fortescue operations experience preferred)
  • Experience leading operational transition, change management, or operational readiness in complex operating environments
  • Strong understanding of operational delivery, commissioning, and cutover
  • Ability to translate strategy and Operating Philosophies into practical, site ready execution
  • Experience leading integration and/or change teams
  • Experience in decarbonisation, energy transition, or major operational transformation would be highly advantageous
  • Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills
  • Change Management certification (e.g., Prosci, ADKAR) preferred.
