Our Opportunity
Work Location: Christmas Creek. Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 8 Days on / 6 Days Off - FIFO ex Perth
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer to join our site-based planning team. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer – 3 Month Planning, this role is responsible for delivering operational mine designs that support safe and efficient production at the Christmas Creek Mine.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver infrastructure designs including levees, out-of-pit dumps (OUDs), haul roads, dewatering infrastructure (trenches and sumps) and decarbonisation infrastructure.
- Produce operational pit, waste dump and stockpile designs to support mining activities.
- Ensure all mine designs comply with Fortescue Design Standards.
- Develop and issue operational pit and waste dump sequence plans to support design execution.
- Prepare clear development plans that communicate design intent, staging, access, constraints and execution requirements to operational teams.
- Obtain and maintain current Land Usage Certificates (LUCs) and clearing summaries for all development activities.
- Liaise with Mining, Geology, Drill & Blast, Decarbonisation, Dewatering and Surface Water teams to confirm design inputs, constraints, interfaces and milestone requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong Vulcan mine design skills (advantageous).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate design intent, key assumptions, constraints and opportunities to a broad range of stakeholders.
