Our Opportunity
Work Location: Eliwana. Fortescue’s Eliwana mine is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama & Pinikura (PKKP) People.
Roster: 4 days on / 3 days off - FIFO ex Perth
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Specialist Mining Engineer to join the Eliwana Operations Planning team.
Reporting to the Superintendent Medium-Term Planning, this role is responsible for leading and coordinating mining project development activities associated with new pits, mine expansion projects, and supporting decarbonisation infrastructure initiatives. This position will play a critical role in coordinating mine planning, infrastructure development, and project delivery activities to achieve safe, efficient, and commercially optimised outcomes aligned with operational requirements and strategic business objectives. This role requires strong technical mining expertise, stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines to deliver executable project outcomes. The successful candidate will be empowered to drive initiatives independently while maintaining strong alignment with operational requirements and business priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical planning and execution activities for new pit developments, mine expansion projects, and supporting infrastructure initiatives.
- Coordinate planning for electrical and decarbonisation infrastructure, including substations, cable layouts, power distribution systems, and associated mining interfaces.
- Support planning activities associated with electrification and decarbonisation initiatives, including electric mining fleet infrastructure and related operational integration requirements.
- Monitor project progress against milestones, budgets, and schedules, providing recommendations for corrective actions where required.
- Prepare project scopes, budgets, capital cost forecasts, and financial models to support business case submissions for new mining areas and associated infrastructure activities.
- Monitor project capital expenditure against approved budgets and identify risks, variances, and optimisation opportunities.
- Produce development schedules and associated deliverables to achieve mine and infrastructure development targets aligned with the 2-year plan.
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops and planning sessions to align project priorities and resolve technical challenges.
- Identify and implement value improvement opportunities through optimisation of mine development sequencing, infrastructure placement, and project execution methodologies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in mine planning, mine design, and scheduling across short and medium-term planning horizons.
- Advanced proficiency in mine planning and design software
- Practical and solutions focused approach to engineering, project delivery and operational problem solving.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously, with a strong ability to take initiative and manage competing priorities.
