As an Excavator Operator at Fortescue, you will play an important role in supporting safe and efficient mining operations. You will operate heavy mining equipment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, environmental responsibility and the protection of heritage sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy mining equipment in accordance with established procedures and operating requirements.
  • Complete pre-start inspections and promptly identify and report equipment or safety concerns.
  • Identify and report hazards and contribute to a safe, harm-free working environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the operational team to support safe and productive outcomes.
  • Complete tasks as directed by Mine Control and through the MineStar fleet management system.
  • Follow equipment assignments and operational direction from Mining Supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated capability operating large mining excavators or shovels in the 400–600 tonne class, such as CAT 6060, CAT 6040, CAT 6030, Hitachi EX3600, Liebherr R 996 or R 9400, or comparable equipment.
  • Capability to operate D9–D11 dozers and/or 16M–24M graders, or other relevant mining equipment when required.
  • Ability to interpret and work effectively to dig plans and mining block-out information.
  • Experience using MineStar or a similar fleet management system.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including clear two-way communication in an operational environment.
  • Current WA C-Class driver’s licence.
