Support the commercial activities that keep Fortescue’s rail operations moving. This opportunity suits a procurement professional looking to build their commercial experience in a complex operational environment. Working alongside experienced category specialists and Rail stakeholders, you will support sourcing, contract management and supplier performance across goods and services essential to Fortescue’s rail network.

You will take ownership of allocated procurement activities, contribute to category strategies and help deliver practical outcomes that balance cost, operational requirements and supply risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract management: Support the management of rail contracts, including variations, extensions, contractual correspondence and the resolution of commercial issues.
  • Supplier performance: Work with stakeholders and suppliers to monitor performance, address service issues and identify opportunities to improve value and reliability.
  • Category planning: Contribute spend, market and supplier insights to rail category strategies, including opportunities to reduce costs, strengthen supply continuity and support changing operational needs.
  • Commercial analysis: Analyse tender submissions, pricing and commercial proposals to develop clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Governance and risk: Prepare procurement approvals, maintain accurate records and identify and escalate commercial and supply risks in line with Fortescue’s requirements.
  • Business partnering: Build effective relationships with Rail stakeholders to understand requirements, challenge assumptions constructively and align procurement activities with business priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in procurement, sourcing or contract management, ideally within mining, resources, rail, engineering or another asset-intensive industry.
  • The ability to evaluate supplier proposals, analyse pricing and explain the commercial implications of different options.
  • Clear written communication skills, including preparing award recommendations, contract correspondence and variations.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, including confidence using Excel to assess commercial data.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and follow activities through to completion.
  • A proactive, collaborative attitude, with strong interpersonal skills, a willingness to learn and the confidence to build relationships, ask questions and follow through on commitments.
  • A commitment to Fortescue’s values and an interest in developing your career in procurement and category management.
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain, Law or a related discipline is desirable
