We're seeking an experienced Operational Risk & Assurance Manager to join our Health, Safety & Operational Risk team in Perth.
Reporting to the Head of Group Health, Safety & Operational Risk, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for strengthening operational risk management, assurance and control effectiveness across Fortescue's global operations. This role plays a critical leadership position within the Health, Safety & Operational Risk function, partnering with senior leaders across the business to enhance governance, improve risk visibility and support risk-informed decision-making.
A key focus of the role will be advancing Fortescue's assurance capabilities through technology-enabled solutions, including continual assurance, automated control monitoring, data analytics, computer vision technologies and other emerging digital assurance tools. You'll help shape the future of risk and assurance by driving innovation while ensuring strong governance, control effectiveness and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing Operational Risk & Assurance team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Partner with senior leaders across Fortescue to strengthen risk-informed decision-making and improve organisational resilience.
- Lead the development and implementation of technology-enabled assurance and continual monitoring solutions, including data analytics, automated controls and emerging technologies.
- Drive proactive operational risk management and governance practices across Fortescue's Metals, Energy and Technology businesses.
- Lead enterprise-wide operational risk reporting, insights and risk profiling for senior executives, Board and Board Committee audiences.
- Develop and continuously improve integrated assurance programs that provide effective oversight of critical risks, controls and operational processes.
- Oversee operational risk systems, reporting platforms and associated technologies, ensuring strong governance, data integrity and system performance.
- Validate and test the effectiveness, reliability and integrity of automated controls, monitoring systems and assurance outcomes.
- Build strong relationships across the organisation to embed risk management capability, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Maintain engagement across domestic and international operations, providing operational risk leadership and assurance oversight globally.
Qualifications and Experience
You'll bring extensive operational risk and assurance experience, strong leadership capability and a passion for helping organisations manage risk proactively and effectively.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Significant experience leading operational risk, assurance, controls, governance or related functions within complex mining, energy, technology or industrial environments.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering enterprise-wide risk, assurance and continual monitoring outcomes.
- Demonstrated success designing, implementing and maturing risk management and integrated assurance frameworks.
- Strong experience driving transformation initiatives and continuous improvement across risk, assurance, governance and control environments.
- Expertise in operational risk management, assurance methodologies, control design and effectiveness testing.
- Experience leveraging technology-enabled assurance tools, including data analytics, automation, continual monitoring and emerging digital technologies.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and executive communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at Board and senior leadership levels.
- A sound understanding of ISO 31000 and contemporary operational risk management practices.
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Commerce, Computer Science, Law or a related discipline.
- Professional risk management qualifications will be highly regarded.
