Roster:  Monday to Friday

 

 

The Principal Engineer – Development Integrations provides technical leadership for the delivery and integration of complex capabilities into Fortescue's Autonomous Haulage System (AHS). The role leads engineering teams developing and integrating software, onboard safety systems and hardware solutions delivered by internal teams, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and technology partners. Working across the full development lifecycle, the role ensures new capabilities are safe, robust, scalable and ready for verification and deployment.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and mentor engineers delivering integration-focused software and hardware capabilities
  • Provide technical leadership across software, onboard systems and hardware-integrated development
  • Define engineering direction for development and integration activities
  • Lead the integration of vendor and OEM technologies into the Autonomous Haulage System
  • Resolve complex integration challenges across software, hardware and onboard systems
  • Ensure solutions align with approved engineering architecture and product direction
  • Drive the development and integration of onboard safety and hardware-integrated systems
  • Lead the use of software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments to reduce engineering risk
  • Ensure features are technically complete and integration-ready before verification
  • Support downstream verification and release activities with technical guidance and evidence.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline
  • 10+ years' experience in complex engineering environments
  • Strong background in software engineering, systems integration or hardware-integrated development
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams delivering safety-critical or mission-critical systems
  • Hands-on experience with SIL, HIL or simulation environments
  • Experience integrating onboard systems, sensors, compute platforms or vehicle hardware
  • Strong understanding of systems integration and engineering assurance
  • Experience working with OEMs, technology partners or external vendors
  • Familiarity with ISO 61508-aligned development environments
  • Excellent technical leadership, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
