Our Opportunity

Work Location:  Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

 

Roster: 8D/6R or 4D/3R ex Perth

 

With Safety at the heart of everything we do, Fortescue is seeking a Principal Technical Safety professional — or an experienced Safety specialist with major hazard facility exposure — to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of safe, sustainable mining at Iron Bridge.

 

This is a unique opportunity to lead the development and implementation of health, safety, process and technical safety systems for our newly commissioned ore processing facility, while supporting the introduction of innovative energy solutions driving the decarbonisation of our fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the safe integration of new energy hazards and controls across mining operations using a risk-based approach
  • Provide technical safety engineering expertise aligned with regulatory and site requirements
  • Develop and implement technical safety processes and systems to support emerging energy technologies
  • Facilitate risk assessments, safety awareness initiatives, and informed decision-making across stakeholders
  • Prepare risk and assurance reporting while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive best-practice safety standards

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Health & Safety, Risk Management, or a related discipline
  • Strong technical safety experience within major hazard facilities, ore processing, or other high-risk industries
  • Sound knowledge of Australian codes, standards, and statutory safety requirements
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing process safety management systems
  • Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence safe outcomes
  • Adaptable and solutions-focused, with strong decision-making skills and the confidence to challenge conventional thinking in dynamic environments
