Roster: Monday to Friday Full Time

 

 

The Quality Lead – China Operations is responsible for providing quality leadership, governance and assurance across Fortescue’s China-based supply chain activities, supporting the China Operations team and relevant project and procurement stakeholders.

 


The role acts as the primary Quality focal point within China, ensuring equipment, materials and supplier services are planned, manufactured, inspected, tested, released and documented in accordance with Fortescue specified requirements, applicable project requirements, contracts, purchase orders, codes and standards.

 


The position will work closely with China Operations, Project Delivery, Engineering, Procurement, Package Management, suppliers, sub-suppliers and Quality Service Providers to proactively identify and manage quality risks across the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

 

•    Lead and champion Fortescue Quality requirements and expectations across China Operations and the associated supply chain.
•    Act as the primary Quality focal point for China-based suppliers, manufacturers and sub-suppliers.
•    Support implementation of the Fortescue Quality Management Framework and applicable Project Quality Management Plans.
•    Plan and conduct supplier/contractor Quality Maturity Assessments, audits and performance reviews. Report and track close out of findings. Monitor supplier/contractor effectiveness of these actions.
•    Provide Quality input into procurement and supplier engagement, including quality requirements within scopes of work, purchase orders, contracts, SDRL/CDRL requirements and supplier deliverables.
•    Facilitate and participate in equipment and services criticality assessments and ensure resulting inspection and intervention requirements are implemented.
•    Review supplier Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), procedures, inspection records, manufacturing documentation and Manufacturers Data Reports as applicable.
•    Plan, coordinate and oversee supplier surveillance, inspections, Factory Acceptance Tests and other verification activities within China.
•    Coordinate Fortescue personnel and nominated second- and third-party Quality Service Providers undertaking inspection and surveillance activities.
•    Review Notifications of Inspection and determine appropriate Fortescue inspection, witness, surveillance or document-review responses.
•    Monitor supplier manufacturing quality performance and proactively identify emerging risks, trends and areas requiring intervention.
•    Ensure identified non-conformities are appropriately captured, communicated and managed through the Fortescue NCR process and PIMS workflow.
•    Verify quality records, inspection outcomes, NCR status, technical queries, punch-list items, documentation and preservation requirements in support of equipment release.
•    Support completion and authorisation processes associated with Inspection Release Certificates where delegated.
•    Establish effective working relationships between the Quality function, China Operations, project teams, procurement, engineering, logistics and suppliers/contractors.
•    Provide coaching and guidance to China Operations personnel and suppliers on Fortescue Quality requirements, processes and strategies.
•    Provide regular reporting to the Quality Manager and General Manager on Supplier/Contractor performance, inspection activities, key quality risks, NCRs, upcoming interventions and areas requiring management attention.

Qualifications and Experience

 

•    University degree in Engineering or significant Quality Management experience in major and/or mega projects, or manufacturing;
•    Quality inspection related qualifications Examples: CSWIP, EEHA and:
•    Trade qualification Examples: Electrician, Boiler Maker, Welder, Mechanical Fitter.    
•    Minimum 5 years’ experience in a role of Quality Lead or Snr Quality Advisor Role
•    Experience providing quality execution throughout design, procurement, construction, commissioning and start up. i.e. Owner Operator, EPC, EPCM, EPCI
•    Experience with risk-based Quality assessment. 
•    Experience working with and/or within OEM providers.  
•    High level written skills with excellent attention to detail.  
•    High level of passion for renewable energy.  
•    Proven ability for credible and authentic engagement with strong interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to communicate in English and Chinese
