Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Newman - Fortescue’s Metallurgical Centre of Excellent is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli People.

 

Roster: 14D/14R -  FIFO ex Perth (Transitioning to a Perth-based role in the first half of FY26, with the roster changing to 8 days on / 6 days off, working 11-hour days)  

 

An exciting opportunity exists for a Resource Development Geologist to join the Operations Planning team at our Metallurgical Laboratory Facility in Newman. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and hardworking Geologist to further develop their professional career within the growing field of geometallurgy.

 

This is a non-mine site-based role located near the town of Newman. The position will initially operate on a FIFO 14 days on / 14 days off roster to Newman. 

 

In the first half of FY26, the role is planned to transition to a new Metallurgical Laboratory facility in Perth, moving to 8 days on / 6 days off, working 11-hour days) 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct geological logging of 6-inch diamond drill core sourced from a range of iron ore deposits across the Pilbara
  • Prepare feed samples for metallurgical test work programs and complete geological logging of products generated through laboratory processing
  • Ensure all core compositing and logging activities are completed accurately, to a high standard, and within required timeframes
  • Liaise closely with onsite Geologists, Metallurgists, Supervisors, and Perth-based stakeholders
  • Communicate key geological observations and feedback to site-based drilling teams
  • Participate in collaborative logging initiatives alongside the drilling team
  • Contribute to additional project work and continuous improvement initiatives to deliver further value to the business

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology or Earth Sciences, with more than 1 year of experience in diamond and RC drilling within iron ore environments, including geological logging, validation, and a solid understanding of QAQC processes (essential)
  • Knowledge of quality systems and strong computer literacy, including MS Office, Vulcan, ArcGIS, and acQuire
  • Sound understanding of minerals processing and associated plant and equipment (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • High level of accuracy in collecting, recording, and maintaining data and associated documentation
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills and proactively develop existing strengths
