Work Location:  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster:  Monday to Friday

 

This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact role within Fortescue’s Tenure & Access team, supporting its significant global tenement portfolio.

 

You’ll lead the maintenance, governance and analysis of cost allocation systems to ensure accurate and timely allocation of expenditure to Fortescue’s tenements.

 

Partnering with project teams and senior stakeholders across the Metals and Growth business, you’ll deliver high-quality cost allocation insights, drive financial accuracy, and improve existing systems and processes.

 

This role requires strong financial judgement and is integral to supporting Fortescue’s licence to explore and operate globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead regular analysis and review of exploration and mining- related expenditure to ensure compliance with statutory tenement obligations, including identifying, analysing, and resolving discrepancies in expenditure data.
  • Own and deliver core expenditure allocation processes, including preparation of tenement expenditure status reports, allocation monitoring reports and associated journal activities.
  • Own the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of tenement expenditure forecasts, including detailed tracking of tenement anniversaries and associated rent, rates and statutory payment obligations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to scope, define and implement improvements to tenement expenditure allocation processes and systems, including ongoing system enhancement and data quality initiatives.
  • Lead training and capability uplift across the business, improving understanding and adoption of tenement cost allocation processes and systems.
  • Process, monitor and verify the integrity of tenement expenditure related to exploration joint venture agreements.
  • Provide expert support to the Tenure & Access team on expenditure related analysis, including advising on best-practice allocation methodologies aligned with relevant mining legislation.
  • Apply strong financial judgement in the classification of tenement-related expenditure, including clear differentiation between operating and capital costs, ensuring alignment with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Maintain and continuously improve operating procedures, documentation, reference materials to support accuracy, consistency and business continuity. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in business, finance, or related field.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in accounting, cost control, or financial analysis (ideally in exploration, mining, energy, or similar).
  • Strong hands-on experience with SAP Finance modules for cost tracking, analysis and preparation of journals.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including working with large datasets, reconciliations and reporting.
  • High attention to detail with excellent analytical and numerical ability.
  • Clear communicator, able to interpret and translate complex data/concepts into insights.
  • Proactive problem-solver, with strong ownership and collaboration mindset.
  • Proactive stakeholder engagement, with a focus on improving processes, systems, and outcomes.

 

Advantageous:

  • CA/CPA or geology/engineering background.
  • Previous experience working with Exploration, Mining or Tenement expenditure, including knowledge of reporting tenement expenditure under the Mining Act.
  • Systems/process improvement experience with good understanding of integration to SAP Finance modules.
