Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
Join Fortescue's Hydrogeology team and play a key role in protecting and managing water quality across our mining operations.
Reporting to the Principal Hydrogeologist and working closely with the Lead Hydrochemist, you'll lead hydrogeochemical investigations, interpret water quality data, support environmental approvals and compliance, and help develop practical solutions that support sustainable mining operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate water quality / hydrochemistry studies related to iron ore and magnetite mining operations in the Pilbara region
- Support investigation and management of complex water quality and hydrogeochemical issues across Fortescue’s mining operations, including interpretation of monitoring data, assessment of potential impacts, and development of practical management strategies.
- Contribute to the review and optimisation of existing management and compliance monitoring programs, characterisation assessments, approvals, mine proposals and closure documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders including hydrogeologists, hydrologists, environmental scientists, engineers, mine planners and operational teams to develop practical water management strategies.
- Develop and review technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies
- Support the promotion and development of water quality within Fortescue, including supporting and mentoring other team members
Qualifications and Experience
- Postgraduate qualifications (Master's or PhD) in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Hydrochemistry or a related discipline.
- Experience in hydrochemistry, water quality and water resource management, ideally within the mining or resources sector.
- Strong knowledge of mine waste characterisation, acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD) risk assessment, groundwater monitoring and water quality management.
- Understanding of environmental legislation, approvals and compliance relating to water management.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience using hydrogeochemical interpretation, GIS and environmental data management software is highly regarded.
