Our Opportunity

Work Location:  Perth CBD, Western Australia.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster:  Monday to Friday

It’s an exciting time to be part of the Fortescue family. We are seeking an accomplished senior communications leader with extensive site-based experience to shape, lead and deliver Fortescue’s global internal communications across our corporate and operations workforce.

As a trusted adviser to senior leaders, this role is accountable for building clarity, connection and alignment across a dynamic, geographically dispersed and diverse organisation. You will provide strategic communications leadership across the Fortescue Metals, Global Growth and Fortescue Zero portfolios.

With a strong focus on innovation and impact, you will oversee the end-to-end internal communications ecosystem—setting strategy, defining standards, and ensuring delivery of high-quality, engaging communications that resonate with our workforce. This includes developing bespoke communication strategies for major transformation programs and company-wide initiatives, driving compelling storytelling, and leveraging digital channels to enhance engagement and understanding.

The role also leads a high-performing Internal and Operations Communications team, building capability, fostering collaboration, and ensuring consistent, best-practice outcomes across global corporate and site-based environments.

Based in Perth, the role requires regular travel to Fortescue’s Pilbara operations to support site-based communications teams and maintain strong, trusted relationships with Operations leaders at all levels.

This role is suited to a strategic, commercially minded communications leader who can support Fortescue’s growth, embed our values and culture, and deliver meaningful employee engagement at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level strategic communications advice to executive and senior leadership, including on complex, sensitive and high-risk matters
  • Own and deliver Fortescue’s internal communications and employee engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities and enterprise objectives
  • Lead, mentor and develop the Internal Communications team, driving capability uplift, performance and consistent quality outcomes
  • Design and oversee communication strategies for major projects, transformation programs and enterprise initiatives
  • Drive innovation in content, channels and digital platforms to improve reach, relevance and engagement across diverse audiences
  • Measure, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of internal communications, using insights and data to continuously improve impact
  • Provide leadership in crisis and issues management, protecting and enhancing Fortescue’s reputation through timely, strategic communications advice
  • Support executive and stakeholder engagement activities, including major events, site visits and leadership forums
  • Ensure all communications are aligned with Fortescue’s values and comply with global communications, brand and market disclosure requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive experience in internal communications, with the ability to draw on complementary expertise in media, content creation, public relations and events
  • Tertiary qualification in communications or a related discipline (e.g. public relations, digital communications, journalism) preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams in complex, fast-paced environments
  • Proven ability to operate as a trusted adviser to senior executives and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Strong strategic thinking and project management capability, with experience delivering large-scale or enterprise-wide initiatives
  • Extensive on-site experience in mining, resources, energy or heavy industry environments
  • Advanced writing and storytelling skills, with a strong understanding of tailoring content for different audiences and channels
  • High levels of autonomy, resilience and adaptability, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, evolving organisation
