Work Location: Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster: 8D/6R - FIFO ex Perth or Port Hedland Residential


Fortescue is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support the successful planning and execution of major Tippler Cell Replacement projects at our Anderson Point Port Facility.

Reporting to the Tippler Cells Project Manager, this role will suit a highly organised Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in mining or heavy industry projects, car dumper operations, contractor management and shutdown execution.

You will provide strong technical and delivery support to the Project Manager while coordinating multiple stakeholders, contractors and internal departments. The successful candidate will be confident working within established processes, managing competing priorities and progressing work independently while maintaining clear alignment with the broader project team.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering and Reliability teams to confirm project requirements and scope.
  • Develop scopes of work, project schedules, cost estimates and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate engineering activities, structural design studies, technical reviews and contractor queries.
  • Support tendering activities, vendor engagement, contract reviews and the sourcing and tracking of long-lead materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate project execution during online and offline operations, including shutdown planning, roster adjustments and potential night-shift work.
  • Manage project documentation, SAP notifications and work orders, expenditure tracking, project closeout activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10–15 years’ experience in mining, resources or heavy industrial environments, including 5–10 years’ experience in project management or project engineering.
  • Experience with car dumpers, tipplers or similar heavy industrial equipment, preferably within a port or bulk materials handling environment.
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, tenders and project delivery activities.
  • Competency in SAP and advanced capability in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Project, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to prioritise under pressure and progress work independently.
