Our Opportunity

Work Location:  Fortescue’s Eliwana mine is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama people.

Roster:  4D/3R - FIFO ex Perth

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Superintendent Environment – Net Positive Impact on Biodiversity (NPIB) to lead the delivery of our biodiversity and land management programs across Fortescue’s Pilbara operations.

Reporting to the Manager Nature & Science, you will lead field programs that support Fortescue’s Biodiversity Action Plan and deliver measurable nature-positive outcomes. This includes habitat and vegetation restoration, ecological management, invasive species control, fire management, biodiversity monitoring and reporting.

You will lead a team of environmental field technicians and work closely with Traditional Custodians, research organisations, regional landholders, contractors, consultants and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead teams delivering biodiversity enhancement and threat-abatement programs, including restoration, invasive species control and fire management.
• Support the development of biodiversity programs in partnership with Traditional Custodians.
• Manage contractors, budgets, procurement activities and scopes of work.
• Build strong relationships with regional landholders, internal stakeholders and operational teams.
• Mentor environmental field technicians and support their professional development.
• Support the delivery of biodiversity monitoring, metrics and reporting frameworks.
• Contribute to the annual Biodiversity Status Report and internal environmental reporting.
• Coordinate environmental workstreams that extend beyond regulatory compliance and contribute to Fortescue’s nature-positive goals.

Qualifications and Experience

• Approximately 10 years’ experience in environmental management, ecology or a related field.
• Experience delivering restoration, biodiversity or land management projects.
• Experience managing contractors, budgets and on-ground programs.
• Knowledge of Pilbara ecology and land management practices, including feral animal control, weed management, fire management and pastoral activities.
• Strong project management, organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation and report-writing skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
• A degree in Environmental Management, Ecology or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent land management experience.
