Fortescue is seeking a proactive and technically skilled Wear Maintenance Specilaist to join our Ore Processing Facility (OPF) team. Reporting to the Superintendent Reliability and Engineering , you will be responsible for implementing, executing, and continuously improving wear management strategies to maximise the life and performance of fixed plant assets.

 

Working closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Shutdown, and Operational teams, you will assess wear patterns, recommend innovative wear-resistant solutions, and coordinate the repair, replacement, and maintenance of critical material handling equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Boilermaker, Welder, or Wear Management professional looking to apply their technical expertise in a reliability-focused role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed inspections and condition assessments of chutes, liners, skirts, and other fixed plant wear components.
  • Develop and implement effective wear management strategies to improve equipment reliability and service life.
  • Analyse wear patterns and recommend suitable wear-resistant materials and technologies.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance teams to optimise wear solutions and equipment performance.
  • Coordinate installation, maintenance, and inspection activities with Maintenance and Shutdown teams.
  • Monitor equipment performance and wear rates to optimise maintenance intervals and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Utilise predictive maintenance and condition monitoring techniques to identify emerging issues.
  • Manage wear material trials and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical advice and training to maintenance personnel on wear management practices.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and vendors regarding wear products and new technologies.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, wear analysis, maintenance activities, and material usage using SAP, Inspector, and AHM.
  • Prepare regular reports outlining wear management performance, improvements, and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Welder or a qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Boilermaker/Welder or within a Wear Management role.
  • Experience with chute, liner, and wear material design, fabrication, and construction.
  • Strong understanding of wear-resistant materials, products, and technologies.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring and wear management methodologies within a mining or heavy industry environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience using predictive maintenance tools and condition monitoring systems.
  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractor teams.
